Applus+ in the UAE has successfully completed the pavement management network survey project in Dubai, a milestone achieved in just 10 months.
This project, designed to support long-term planning, will be critical in enhancing maintenance management, prioritization, and budgeting for the next 5 to 10 years. The survey covered an extensive 7,000 lane kilometers, incorporating advanced technologies to provide high-precision data for informed decision-making. Utilizing the cutting-edge Laser Crack Measurement System (LCMS-2), Applus+ captured and analyzed detailed road surface data, delivering invaluable insights for the Pavement Management System (PMS) and GIS platforms. These insights are now integrated into the client's decision-making processes, streamlining how future road maintenance and infrastructure planning are approached.
In this project, the LCMS-2 laser scanner system enabled precise condition assessments by capturing high-resolution data on pavement conditions and right-of-way assets. The system captures detailed 3D images of road surfaces, accurately identifying surface distresses and irregularities. It detects surface distresses such as cracks, potholes, and other irregularities while also evaluating driving quality and road characteristics, offering a deeper understanding of road performance. Additionally, the LCMS-2 records 2D images of right-of-way assets, ensuring a comprehensive dataset covering the pavement and surrounding infrastructure and offering a holistic view of road conditions.
The data collected during the survey was seamlessly integrated into the client's Pavement Management System and GIS platforms, ensuring data-driven decisions for effective maintenance and resource allocation. This advanced approach to pavement evaluation optimizes maintenance strategies by providing precise, actionable data, enhancing road performance, and extending the life of the pavement network. Enabling early detection and prioritization of repairs reduces maintenance costs and supports more efficient use of resources. This project will also empower the client to make informed, data-driven decisions to ensure the long-term sustainability of Dubai's world-class road network.
