Applus+ Pipeline Inspection and Rehabilitation team in the UAE's has completed the first-ever installation of the 904L Quick-Lock® system, a high-grade stainless steel internal leak repair designed especially for the UAE’s national water company in collaboration with Uhrig Group and its certified partner JBP Composites. This marks a global first for the potable water distribution sector, as the system has never been used in such a network before.
Earlier this month, a significant leak was discovered in a 600mm GRP potable water pipeline operated by a national water company. The issue was reported at 6:31 PM, prompting Applus+ to mobilize swiftly. Within six hours, the Applus+ team had successfully repaired the leak and restored the pipeline to full service.
The 904L Quick-Lock® system is designed for challenging pipeline conditions. It offers a robust and durable solution that eliminates the need for traditional excavation and replacement methods. This system allows for internal repairs without human entry, making it particularly suitable for difficult or unsafe pipelines.
Although Applus+ has performed numerous internal repairs for potable water pipelines where man entry is possible, this project is the first to utilize the Quick-Lock® system in a non-man entry pipeline. The repair process involves inserting the stainless steel sleeve into the damaged section of the pipe, where it expands to form a tight seal, preventing further leakage and ensuring the pipe's structural integrity.
This installation not only highlights Applus+ capabilities in handling complex infrastructure challenges but also demonstrates the company's commitment to using innovative solutions that minimize disruption and downtime. The Quick-Lock® system is particularly valuable in urban environments, where lengthy excavation and repair times can significantly impact surrounding communities and services.
By employing the latest technologies and techniques, Applus+ in the UAE continues to play a crucial role in maintaining the region's critical water distribution infrastructure. It ensures that pipelines are rehabilitated efficiently and effectively with minimal environmental and operational impact.
Inspecting and maintaining the integrity of water pipelines is critical in arid environments like the UAE, where water is an extremely scarce and valuable resource for the environment. Any leaks, corrosion, or structural failures in these pipelines can lead to significant water loss, jeopardizing supply and intensifying the challenges of water scarcity.
As demand for reliable water distribution systems grows, Applus+ is well-positioned to provide tailored solutions that meet the region's evolving infrastructure needs.
