A pigment plant in Western Australia has extended its contract with Applus+ to continue providing critical onsite personnel and inspection services. Applus+ will focus on non-destructive testing (NDT) and plant inspections, ensuring the ongoing integrity of the facility’s infrastructure, particularly in addressing corrosion from the plant's processes. This contract extension highlights the client's trust in Applus+ to maintain safety and operational efficiency at one of the world’s largest integrated titanium dioxide projects.
Located near Perth, the Pigment Plant works in tandem with Northern Operations, a mineral sands site, to form a globally significant titanium dioxide production operation. Synthetic rutile from the Chandala Processing site is processed at Kwinana, using the chloride process to produce high-quality titanium dioxide.
The extension highlights Applus+’s critical role in maintaining the plant’s infrastructure, especially in addressing the risks posed by the use of corrosive products required for the process. Applus+ utilises advanced inspection techniques, including drone surveys, to assess and mitigate corrosion, ensuring the plant operates safely and efficiently.
