How Applus+ assisted with the re-start of ExxonMobil's Hides Gas Plant

13/07/2018

Following the earthquake that hit the Hela province in late February, a specialist team of Applus+ technicians were directly involved in assisting with the re-start of ExxonMobil’s LNG operations in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

In the wake of the earthquake, Applus+ was asked to mobilise a multidisciplinary team of Rope Access, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), AICIP, Welding and Structure technicians to PNG in the shortest possible time.

From March to May, the specialist team carried out inspections to assess the condition of the plant’s assets. Under the direction of onsite team leader, Shariman Radzi, the Applus+ team carried out meticulous inspections and assisted in preparing the PNG plant for safe start-up. The high degree of risk associated with the project demonstrated the Applus+ commitment to quality, safety and excellence.

Operations have now recommenced in the aftermath of the 7.5 magnitude earthquake. The contributions of Applus+ personnel from Port Moresby, Perth, Brisbane and Batam combined with excellent support and cooperation from ExxonMobil PNG, ensured safe and successful outcomes.
