CUI describes corrosion under insulation and there are currently no proven methods established within the industry to accurately measure or manage the process. The new test rigs have been specially engineered to replicate working process conditions from the Woodside plant, providing opportunities to try and develop innovative tests to effectively asses CUI.
The newly developed technology will offer in depth insights on CUI formation rates and conditions, a new patentable corrosion measuring probe and the means to visually manage CUI with a new specialist drain device. These developments will have an extensive impact on the future of the testing field.
Applus+ Woodside representative, Travis Baensch, was directly involved in the project and was responsible for building the CUI test rigs along with contributions from Monoadelphous. Applus+ is honoured to be a part of this forward thinking project which further cements our dedication to developing new opportunities for knowledge expansion in the field of Oil & Gas.
The CUI Testing Program reflects Woodside Energy’s commitment to innovation and represents another step in expanding the FutureLab at Monash.
Travis Baensch joined Woodside’s Production Technology Portfolio Manager, Darren Shanahan, and Chief Materials, Inspection and Corrosion Engineer, Mike Brameld, last week for the official commissioning of the new program at Monash University.
