Railway

Applus+ engineering consultancy and inspection services on railways refer not only to conventional railways but also to high-speed railways.

We deal with complex railway projects, most of them with long tunnels in harsh geological conditions and major structures with different typologies.

We also have experience in metro projects and the development of Spain's HSR (High-Speed Rail) network, providing services in all the corridors.

Railway inspection
We provide services for design review, QA/QC, quantity surveying, schedule monitoring, budgetary control, contract management, and expropriations.

Our portfolio includes complete services: platform, track, electrification, and safety and communication facilities.

Railway geotechnical engineering
At Applus+, we have a specific area of geotechnical engineering made up of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and geologists with extensive experience.

Our knowledge acquired over decades, together with our own geotechnical equipment and laboratories, allows us to offer our clients comprehensive solutions to the most complex problems.
We have the latest technology in drilling machinery as well as equipment for geophysical works.

Railway risk management | Geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring
Applus+ continually explores the practical application of advanced technologies to provide innovative, cost-effective, and appropriate solutions to ensure risk management in the railway industry through geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring works and technologies.

We have worked in the instrumentation and monitoring of several metro projects, such as Line 9 in Barcelona Metro, as well as the Riyadh or Lima Metro projects, among other works developed in different kinds of linear infrastructures, HSR, and Roads.

Bridges instrumentation and monitoring
At Applus+, in collaboration with Calsens, we are experts in the intelligent monitoring of structures using our own technology based on optic fiber.

Our multidisciplinary team includes experts in different knowledge areas of civil engineering, telecommunications, and structural engineering. We are a world reference in structure testing and monitoring, with many published works and patents.

Pre and post-dilapidation survey
Applus+ has accomplished important goals in providing dilapidation services. We have been involved in significant projects worldwide, such as the Metro networks in Barcelona, Doha, and Riyadh. For the latter, we did the dilapidation survey for all the lines and accomplished the inspection of more than 1,000 buildings within four months.

Our team of highly skilled engineers, combined with our leading technology (SICE), has allowed us to achieve the best performance in this kind of project.

Laboratory testing
We perform material tests and operational tests, both in laboratories and on-site, to satisfy the needs of developers, builders, public institutions, and engineering or architecture companies, which need to verify proper execution of the works regarding the quality of the materials used and its correct placing and operational performance.

Quality control must be considered from the start of the construction process to identify and control the materials and the most critical units.

We have been involved in the development of the HSR in Spain, providing services for all the new corridors. Currently, we have several laboratories working on the Northwest HSR line in Spain.
