On January 23rd, 2020, the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia released Professional Practice Guidelines detailing annual equipment inspection and certification in British Columbia.
The BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations require that specific equipment classifications undergo inspection & certification by a Professional Engineer annually. Equipment types subject to annual inspection include articulating boom cranes, mobile cranes, aerial devices, sign trucks, masts supporting concrete pumps, tower cranes, fire truck aerial devices and ground ladders, and self-propelled boom-supported work platforms.
The majority of these equipment types require certification as “Safe for Use,” meaning that the Engineer of Record must certify the structural, mechanical, and controls components of the device.
