Applus+ conducted a series of radiographic examinations for several mechanical vendors in the Alberta oil sands utilizing ABSA approved Computed Radiography (CR) procedures to achieve client cost efficiency. Applus+ holds the only certificate of authorization issued by ABSA for CR inspection in Alberta. These examinations included pressure-retaining welds within a crowded furnace and a crowded vessel with parallel work fronts with other skilled trades. There was no impact on the schedule, as no concurrent activities had to be halted for non-destructive examinations. With Applus+ Advanced Radiographic methods, we can reduce our exclusion zone to less than 10 feet, with no impact on our clients' demanding turnaround times.
Historically, executing a radiographic examination in a busy work environment presented several challenges, including the need to remove personnel resources from their work areas, which halted critical work paths and production.
