Applus+ has been awarded a new contract for the provision of non-destructive testing and inspection services by a leading Canadian operator in the Fort McMurray, Alberta Region. The scope of work entails the NDT and in-service inspection of various refining facility assets including piping, pressure vessels, static equipment, and pipeline.
Applus+ technicians will inspect the facilities assets using a variety of conventional and advanced inspection techniques including Radiography, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetrant Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, and Visual Inspection.
Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT) is one of the most widely used non-destructive testing methods and is an effective means of locating and determining the severity of surface discontinuities in materials, including those that are not visible to the naked eye. Our technicians perform LPT to identify surface cracks. Similarly, Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) may also be used to identify surface or near-surface discontinuities. Our technicians will also perform Radiographic Testing (RT), one of the most fundamental volumetric testing methods performed in the industry. In this case, gamma radiation is used to detect flaws on any weld repairs and detect potential damage. Additionally, Ultrasonic Testing (UT) will be performed and is a practical and effective solution for performing wall thickness measurements. Different UT techniques may be utilized for dimensional measurements, material characterization, flaw detection, and more. All in all, the NDT and inspections performed by Applus+ help to safeguard our clients’ operations by ensuring repairs are completed as per code and any flaws are detected during inspection.
