Applus+ implements Drive NDT to optimize NDT report delivery for wind energy projects

The challenge we faced was to provide real-time report delivery after the completion of each non-destructive test carried out on the project, to speed up data delivery and improving project management and efficiency.

The Applus+ team in Brazil identified this issue and brought it to the company’s innovations team. The solution introduced was Drive NDT, an innovative technology that had already been successfully used in other Applus+ facilities around the world. Drive NDT has revolutionized the way wind turbine inspection reports are generated and delivered, replacing the traditional manual data compilation method with an integrated digital system. During each inspection, the inspector uses a tablet to record results in real time, allowing for immediate report generation upon test completion.

Key project areas

The project encompassed several key areas, including:

• Optimizing the report delivery process: The main challenge was real-time report delivery after each non-destructive test. The previous process required 24 to 48 hours for report delivery, causing delays and accumulating pending data books for the client, which impacted operational flow and project efficiency.
• Implementing Drive NDT: The Applus+ team in Brazil proposed using Drive NDT, an innovative technology that had proven effective in other Applus+ facilities. This integrated digital system enabled inspectors to record results in real time using tablets, generating reports immediately after each test.
• Improving report quality: Adopting Drive NDT not only eliminated delays but also enhanced data accuracy and the quality of reports delivered to the client.

Results achieved

Since implementing Drive NDT, Applus+ in Brazil has seen significant improvements in operational efficiency. The solution has enabled the immediate and accurate delivery of reports, which has strengthened customer satisfaction and laid a solid foundation for adopting the system in other projects within the construction, renewable energy, oil and gas, and mining sectors.
