Applus+ has successfully conducted a pilot test of its IWEX technology of ultra-advanced ultrasonic testing system at the facilities of Windar Renovables, a key player in the field of the manufacture of offshore and onshore wind towers, including monopiles, jackets, and transition pieces in Spain.
These tests were conducted thanks to the manufacturing quality control agreement that Applus+ has in place for an important European offshore wind project.
The results confirmed a significant improvement in the inspection and evaluation process.
The IWEX technology, using full matrix capture (FMC) imaging, covers the entire welding zone in a single pass, leading to a substantial reduction in inspection times, an increase in detection quality, and the elimination of false indications (false calls). The solution includes cutting-edge software, with different types or representations, greatly facilitating result evaluation.
This new technology offers higher inspection quality, increased Probability of Detection (PoD), a reduction in welding rejection rates, and considerable time savings. It enables more agile and precise inspections while minimizing the impact on the manufacturing chain, making it particularly beneficial for Offshore Wind projects with stringent quality requirements.
Applus+ Wind turbine manufacturing QA/QC services support its clients by offering tailored solutions to ensure that the highest quality standards are met in wind turbine fabrication and securing offshore quality assurance.
