Applus+ provides Rotoscan non-destructive testing services for a new gas pipeline in Croatia

31/05/2024

Applus+ was requested to provide non-destructive testing for the construction of a new natural gas pipeline in Croatia. The project is part of the country’s strategic plan to increase its gas transmission capacity and involves the construction of a pipeline in western Croatia.

The pipeline will connect the existing liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal with the main gas transmission system, supplying up to 3.5 billion m3/y of natural gas to the domestic market and neighboring countries. The project will enhance the security and reliability of gas supply for Croatia and foster the development of the regional gas market.

To ensure the highest quality of testing, Applus+ deployed a team of specialists to perform automated ultrasonic testing (AUT) with Applus+ Rotoscan technology on 32-inch pipelines for a length of 48 km. AUT is a state-of-the-art technique that offers high accuracy, speed, and reliability in detecting and sizing defects in welds. Applus+ Rotoscan is a proprietary technology developed by Applus+ that enables real-time data acquisition, analysis, and reporting of AUT results. The engineering and fabrication of the calibration blocks, which are essential for the proper functioning of the AUT system, were completed in November 2023. The site work started in the last week of November and is expected to be completed by November 2024.

Applus+ is proud to be part of this strategic project, which shows its expertise and experience in providing quality control services for the oil and gas midstream industry. Applus+ has a long history of working in the Croatian market, having provided inspection and testing services for several pipeline projects, demonstrating its commitment to delivering excellence and ensuring the highest testing quality for its clients.
