Applus+, through its Energy & Industry Division, is successfully supervising the construction and launch of a large offshore wind farm for one of the Baltic Sea’s leading energy companies. Despite the complexity of the project in question, this sector leader has entrusted its project to Applus+ thanks to our 15-plus years’ experience in onshore wind farms.
For Applus+, this project combines
renewable energy with technological innovation, internationalisation and support for economic development. Indeed, offshore wind power is key to the Group’s growth. With this flagship project in the Baltic Sea now drawing to a close, we are in a strong position to access new markets and new business opportunities.
Applus+ is charged with
quality control during the launch of this wind farm. He is also responsible for checking that the
wind turbines and other machinery are running according to plan, creating action plans to deal with any problems that may arise and ensuring that all established quality protocols are being followed.
Some of the main stages in the assembly and monitoring of this wind farm include:
- Embedding 280 pillars in the ocean floor to support the foundations
- Installation of the offshore substation
- Installation and activation of the undersea cables, connecting up with the onshore substation (more than 80 kilometres of cable)
- Installation of 70 wind turbines
This project, which has received an investment of €1.4 billion, will reduce annual CO2 emissions by some 600,000 tonnes and supply around 350,000 households on the north-east coast of the German island of Rügen with renewable energy.
This is but one example of the services Applus+ can offer its clients in the renewable energy field; services that aim to support clients through all phases of their projects, providing solutions right from the initial feasibility study and design phase through to the completion of a new site, ensuring the correct installation of all elements. Applus+ helps client companies in this strategic sector to comply with all relevant legislation, to assess plants when they are fully operational and to audit their engineering, component-manufacturing, construction, assembly, maintenance and operating processes.
