Applus+ and Navantia have been collaborating for more than 20 years in various projects, and specifically at the Navantia shipyard in Cartagena since 2006. One of the most ambitious projects in the history of this shipyard is the construction of the S-81 submarine, considered the most advanced conventional submarine in the world.
Applus+ has participated in the development of the ship's Platform Control Systems and in the performance of all types of non-destructive testing, such as Phased Array ultrasonic testing, stabilised incidence radiographic tests, X-ray spectrometry or semi-automated dimensional control studies using Laser scanning, thus guaranteeing the quality of the construction in the most critical areas of this submarine. The S-81 submarine has advanced technology in terms of combat, communications and propulsion systems, and is the first of the four S-80 class submarines to be delivered to the Spanish Navy. Applus+ continues to participate in the construction phases of the remaining three submarines that comprise this historic milestone.
Our collaboration with Navantia in Cartagena started 17 years ago, providing technical assistance services to the Engine Factory for the maintenance of the engines at the Trillo Nuclear Power Plant. Since then, Applus+ has provided support for purchasing management, inspection through non-destructive testing, and technical assistance to the production and engineering departments of this client, in addition to other tasks.
