Applus+ boosts predictive maintenance in the electricity sector

17/10/2024

One of the keys to guaranteeing the performance and useful life of electrical transformers is predictive maintenance. Thanks to the early detection of possible faults, it is possible to identify incipient faults in power grids before they evolve and worsen, allowing scheduled shutdowns to be carried out for transformer maintenance, avoiding unexpected service interruptions with their associated costs, and extending the useful life of these assets.

Our specialist electrical testing technicians perform a wide variety of tests as part of the predictive maintenance plan for transformers. These include:

    - tangent delta tests with frequency sweep on windings and terminals

    - transformation ratio and connection group

    - excitation at reduced voltage (vacuum test)

    - leakage reactance (short-circuit test)

    - ohmic resistance of windings

    - dynamic switching resistance of the regulator on load

    - frequency response analysis (FRA)

    - frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS)

    - partial discharge monitoring.

We also have an insulating mineral oil analysis laboratory, accredited under the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard, which performs physical-chemical tests, dissolved gas analysis and analysis of furanic compounds, among others, in order to check the condition of the transformers.

The early detection of potential defects in transformers is essential to avoid failures that can cause environmental problems such as oil spills. At Applus+, we are committed to sustainability, and we work with our clients to ensure that their activities are performed in compliance with environmental directives and standards.

Thanks to our experience and advanced technology, we help companies improve the profitability of their operations, reduce costs, and ensure a reliable and environmentally friendly electricity supply.
