Applus+ calculates and mitigates its environmental impact in its commitment to sustainability

26/03/2025

In the framework of the 13th Annual Conference of the Applus+ Energy & Industry Division in Spain, we have taken another step forward in our sustainability strategy by measuring and mitigating the carbon footprint generated during the event.

Through Novotec, a company of the Applus+ group, for the second consecutive year, we have carried out a detailed calculation of the emissions derived from the conferences, considering all the factors involved, from travel to the energy consumption of the place where they were held and the materials used.

The Applus+ Carbon Footprint Calculator application, designed and marketed by Novotec, has been used for the calculation, which supports Scopes 1, 2 and 3, and whose results can be verified with the ISO 14064-1 and GHG Protocol standard and which provides all the information for the footprint to be registered in the MITERD.

But our commitment doesn't stop at measurement. To mitigate our footprint, we've joined the Green Engine initiative, promoted by Fundación Repsol and the Sylvestris Group, which encourages the reforestation of degraded land in Spain. Our participation in the reforestation of the Maceira Forest (Pontevedra) will enable the absorption of 9 tonnes of CO₂.

The procedure by which this measurement is performed is verified by LRQA, ensuring that the mitigation is real and measurable. Our participation in this Green Engine initiative not only helps to mitigate environmental impact, but also generates a positive social and economic impact, boosting local and inclusive employment and favouring the recovery of biodiversity in areas affected by fire or degradation.

With this action, we reaffirm that sustainability at Applus+ is not only a value but a tangible commitment to the planet and future generations.
