Applus+ carries out soil tests for an important mining project in Chile

The services provided by Applus+ through LEM in this project include the execution of laboratory tests both on-site (Accredited Mobile Laboratory - AML) and in the city of Calama (Base Laboratory). Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and highly trained personnel, these laboratories will ensure the quality of the soil tests necessary for the construction of the new phase of the tailings dam.

The main objective is to guarantee the integrity of the static equipment in the Distrito Norte, and Applus+ will play a key role in conducting non-destructive tests and risk analysis through its partner LEM. The construction of Phase IX of the Talabre Dam, started in November 2023 and is scheduled to last 33 months. It includes extending the walls, installing geotechnical instrumentation systems, building mobile pumping systems, and new regulation pools, improving the diversion of the dam, and adapting the tailings system.

The risk assessment applied to this project is comprehensive, including environmental risk analysis and addressing critical aspects such as overtipping, slope instability, foundation instability, internal erosion, and the release of contaminants.
