Applus+ ensures quality in the construction of Chile's largest solar plant

27/08/2024

Applus+ was the company chosen to provide on-site inspection services for the construction of a solar plant project for Generadora Metropolitana. With over 882,000 solar panels and an installed capacity of 480 MW, this project is the largest in Chile to date. The solar plant features the implementation of robots for cleaning its solar panels and also includes the construction of a 220kV step-up substation and a transmission line consisting of 34 structures to transmit the generated energy to the Miraje substation.

The multidisciplinary team from Applus+ worked on-site to closely monitor the work and ensure that it met the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental preservation. The solar Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) services provided included validating and certifying the progress of works according to the established timelines, support during conditioning work, and consolidating certificates and protocols for the quality dossier.

Additionally, the review of engineering documents was carried out, and Enertis Applus+ conducted testing and inspection of solar plants with electroluminescence tests on panels. The company LEM also performed concrete tests, soil mechanics tests, water analysis, and liquid penetrant tests. Labour control of the project, which involved around 1,300 people on-site, was also conducted.

The main goal of the project was to meet the high electricity demand and contribute to the decarbonization of the national energy matrix. This project is located in the town of María Elena in northern Chile.

Generadora Metropolitana developed this renewable energy project in response to the country's existing decarbonization plan and the high energy demand. During the project's execution, Applus+ managed various risks, such as transportation, electrical risks, and interference with other companies, to ensure compliance with the standards required by the client.

Our team will work to meet the client's expectations in all aspects of project control: administrative, technical, safety, environmental, and legal, ensuring the successful execution and commissioning of Chile's largest photovoltaic park with 480 MW.

Applus+ reaffirms its commitment to excellence in the inspection of construction and maintenance projects,  contributing to the sustainable and safe development of energy infrastructure in Chile.
