Applus+ is providing inspection and asset integrity management services for a major refinery with a team of 30 specialized professionals. This project focuses on inspecting and evaluating critical physical assets, using various techniques to monitor the structural conditions of piping and process equipment such as fractionation towers, accumulators, exchangers, furnaces, reactors, and boilers. The activities also include the assembly and disassembly of scaffolding, as well as the removal and replacement of insulation.
The contracted service includes inspections through ultrasonic testing (UT), thermography NDT, leak detection, and visual testing techniques, among others. Additionally, access is facilitated by the installation of scaffolding and insulation management. This project is being carried out at the refinery located in Hualpén, Bio Bio region, Chile.
This project arises from the obligation to comply with legal provisions related to the inspection and monitoring of conditions for piping and static equipment, as established in DS160, the safety regulation for facilities and operations in the production and refining of liquid fuels.
The main activities include thickness measurement, B-Scan testing, insulation removal and replacement, and scaffold assembly and disassembly. Additionally, inspections will be performed using thermography, ultrasonic leak detection, Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), liquid penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, and oil pipeline inspection.
By adhering to procedures and maintaining a safety-focused approach, we expect to achieve all planned objectives, positioning Applus+ as a reliable company and extending the relationship with the client.
This is a project with certain associated risks, including working at heights, confined spaces, work at high temperatures, and driving of light vehicles, as well as the inherent risks of the petrochemical industry. To mitigate these risks, Applus+ will apply a rigorous management system that includes safety guidelines and standards from both the company and the client.
The project’s progress and results will be communicated through weekly meetings with the management team, ensuring agile and effective communication for decision-making. Reports will cover safety, KPI achievement, production progress, and payment and billing situation.
Participation in this project consolidates Applus+ as a strategic partner for the refinery, ensuring high-quality and efficient work, always prioritizing the safety of the workers. This joint effort aims to meet industry standards and achieve the expected quality and profitability goals.
