Applus+ leads an environmental monitoring project at the Buriticá mine, Antioquia

20/06/2024

Applus+ has been selected to carry out an innovative environmental monitoring project at the Buriticá mining project in Antioquia, owned by a major mining company in Colombia. This project began in April 2023 and will extend until July 2026.

The project encompasses a wide range of essential services for the environmental monitoring of the mine, including the sale of equipment, operation, and maintenance of said equipment, consulting, and modeling of atmospheric variables, and the management of Environmental Compliance Reports (ICAs). The main objective is to operate the environmental monitoring system of this mine to ensure compliance with its environmental permit and to ensure that operational and social decisions are based on accurate and timely information. To achieve this, Applus+ will carry out specific activities such as online monitoring of 22 stations, biannual monitoring of air quality, noise, and vibrations, supply of spare parts and consumables, operation and maintenance of equipment, and provision of licenses for generating ICAs, as well as risk management and mitigation.

One of the main risks associated with the project is the possibility of equipment failures due to operation. To mitigate this risk, Applus+ will implement rigorous preventive maintenance plans and quality assurance of QAL2 and AST systems, ensuring that all equipment operates optimally throughout the project's duration.

To keep partners and clients informed about the project's progress, Applus+ will hold monthly follow-up meetings and organize visits. This ensures clear communication and effective dissemination of project results.

This project reinforces Applus+ commitment to sustainability, innovation, and excellence in the mining sector in Latin America.
