Applus+ is undertaking a project for the Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Bogotá (EAAB), aimed at modernizing and updating 103 stations in its hydrometeorological network. This project includes rain gauge, climatological, and hydrometric stations distributed across the departments of Cundinamarca and Meta. The goal is to optimize the exchange of information with entities such as CAR, SDA, IDIGER, and IDEAM.
The EAAB’s hydrometeorological network, aligned with the standards of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), provides critical data for water management, drainage system design and operation, water systems evaluation, and emergency response planning. With this modernization, the daily operations of the EAAB are expected to improve, while also facilitating synergies between districts.
Applus+ is responsible for supplying, installing, and commissioning the equipment and components necessary to modernize these stations. Additionally, it is carrying out civil engineering works and providing the structures required for installation at various locations.
The main objective of the project is to modernize 103 hydrometeorological stations across different localities in the departments of Cundinamarca and Meta, enhancing their technological capacity and ensuring compatibility with other district-level information systems. These environmental monitoring stations will gather real-time, first-hand data on water resources and climatic environmental conditions, facilitating monitoring through an early warning and emergency response system. This contributes to analysis and decision-making regarding water availability for the supply of over 7 million inhabitants of Bogotá D.C.
The project will be executed in five phases: initial administrative activities, including introductory meetings, work plan presentations, and follow-up meetings; initial execution activities, which include technical site visits and equipment functionality testing; civil engineering works; station installation, and final verification of sensor and station functionality; followed by the official project handover.
The modernization will enable more effective information exchange with other entities, strengthening EAAB operations.
As a public entity, the EAAB will keep departmental authorities informed of project progress, ensuring transparency and accountability.
With this project, Applus+ reaffirms its commitment to innovation, the environment, and the improvement of critical infrastructure, contributing significantly to the region’s development and sustainability.
