Applus+ promotes environmental projects aligned with the European Nature Restoration Law

23/10/2024

In June 2024, the European Union approved the Nature Restoration Law, a milestone in the fight for environmental sustainability. This legislation not only aims to restore 30% of degraded habitats by 2030, but also marks an opportunity for those companies, like Applus+, that are already leading initiatives aligned with these objectives. With key projects in environmental monitoring, reforestation and invasive species control, Applus+ is positioned as a key company in the implementation of sustainable solutions that promote the protection of biodiversity and restoration of ecosystems in Europe.

The law has a direct impact on various sectors, such as agriculture, marine ecosystems, forestry and construction. Although it involves short-term challenges, such as reducing agricultural expansion and restoring rivers and urban green spaces, it aims to ensure a sustainable and biodiverse economy in the long term.

Applus+ offers a wide range of environmental services and has been collaborating for years with projects that are aligned with the objectives of this law, including:

    • An environmental surveillance project in the Canary Islands for one of the main companies in the international electricity market, guaranteeing the protection of the natural environment during energy development.
    • Forest planting campaigns for one of the most prominent Spanish companies in renewable energy production, promoting the recovery of degraded forest ecosystems.
    • An invasive species control project for one of the most important electricity distributors in the country, helping to protect local biodiversity.
    • The development of analytical methodologies for the chemical laboratory of a major research study, integrating efforts into monitoring the quality of the aquatic environment and improving the sustainable production of aquatic animals.
    • The monitoring of biodiversity using environmental DNA (eDNA) from lakes, as part of an international effort funded by the European Research Council to transform biodiversity conservation.
    • The promotion of ‘Nature Positive’ practices through specialised consultancy and tools such as AmbiensQ, which facilitates the management of biodiversity-related risks and promotes sustainability in line with agreements such as the Kunming-Montreal Agreement.

Through our experience and work, we ratify our position as a key partner in the implementation of environmental initiatives that promote the restoration of our natural environment.
