Applus+ provides NDT, QA/QC, and material testing services for a major mining client in Chile

The contracted service includes laboratory materials testing, destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT), and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) support. Applus+ will provide services for both civil works and industrial inspection, with permanent staff on-site and testing conducted at its branch in Calama. Fully equipped, the team will perform their tasks under optimal conditions, ensuring quality and safety at every stage of the project.

The primary goal of the project is to boost copper concentrate production capacity to 205 ktpd. This significant increase in production capacity is crucial for meeting demand and improving the client’s operational efficiency, enabling them to maintain their leadership position.

The project is located at the client's facilities in Chile's Second Region, in the Atacama Desert, approximately 150 km northeast of Antofagasta, near the town of Sierra Gorda in the Loa Province.

Key activities include large-scale earthmoving, massive concreting, and structural assemblies. These efforts aim to ensure quality and efficiency at every phase of the project, guaranteeing that the expected results are effectively achieved.

Risk assessment is a critical component of the project. Applus+ adopts a systematic and rigorous approach to identifying, analyzing, and evaluating potential risks associated with each activity. The main risks include falls from various heights, entrapments, runovers, and collisions. These risks are mitigated through adherence to traffic conditions, prior environmental assessment, and the promotion of adequate rest periods and safe practices.
