Applus+ successfully completes the Technical Assistance works for the construction of the new water tank of Almeiras, in A Coruña, Spain

The works optimised the structure of the tank, including a complete redesign of both the inlet and outlet valve rooms, as well as of the connections with both the existing upstream and downstream pipelines of this structure. The upgrade will provide the tank with a higher capacity for water storage and will significantly improve its operation and maintenance conditions.

Another particular feature of this new tank is its new outlet valve, actuated hydraulically and with a diameter of 500 millimetres, which makes it possible to regulate the outlet water pressure by means of a set of back-up electrical and hydraulic pilot valves, protecting the network located downstream of this structure. This means that even if the control system suffers a power supply failure, the valve will continue operating in a completely autonomous way.

Applus+ has provided consultancy and supervision during the construction works and the commissioning of the facility. One of the most complex tasks was connecting the new infrastructure to the two general pipelines supplying water to the metropolitan area of A Coruña. These works had to be carried out at night in order to avoid the hours of highest water consumption and to guarantee the water supply of the population.

After completing and commissioning this tank, it is expected that a twin tank will be constructed in the near future in order to guarantee the water supply and to improve the operation of the pumps of the water-treatment plant of La Telva.
