Endesa, the first electricity company founded in Spain, awarded Applus+ the project DEI Mahón, successfully adapting the Power Plant to the new emissions limit set by the European Industrial Emissions Directive.
The Mahón Power Plant, located in the west pier of the dock of Mahón, is an electrical power plant equipped with three diesel engines and five gas turbines powered by diesel oil. The scope of this project included the services of technical assistance, environmental monitoring, health and safety coordination, and technical supervision of the construction works, assembling and commissioning of the project.
Applus+ has a large portfolio of services and solutions that allowed it to meet all the needs of the client by forming a technical team from various disciplines: environment, mechanics, electricity, occupational risk prevention, and construction. This highly qualified and experienced multidisciplinary team travelled to Menorca to carry out some of the on-site activities in accordance with the operating procedures, technical specifications and regulations of the service.
The project to adapt the Mahón Power Plant began in April 2019, and the schedule to execute the project was critical since the new Directive was due to come in force on 1 January 2020. Thanks to Applus+ being equipped with the necessary technological and material means, the company was able to meet the deadlines set by our client without neglecting the quality of the service provided. In addition, a second phase of complementary activities for this project will begin shortly, which will focus on improving the quality of the water coming from the EDAR (Waste Water Treatment Station) of the Power Plant.
The adaptation operations carried out on this site have served as an example that inspired new clients in other areas of Spain to put their trust in us to adapt their facilities to these new limitations.
