On 14th October 2024, the XIII San Telmo Award was presented at the headquarters of the Galician Branch of the College of Civil Engineers (CICCP). This year, the award went to the project to improve the wastewater treatment process at the Praceres Wastewater Treatment Plant (Pontevedra). Applus+ is honoured to have provided Technical Assistance services to the Site Management in this hydraulic works, management project, whose award recognises the most representative civil engineering performance in Galicia and highlights the technical quality and positive impact on the community. Applus+ provides specialised support to the site management, providing exhaustive monitoring of the execution of the works to guarantee that the works are carried out following the construction project and thus ensure the success of the project.
This action, promoted by Aguas de Galicia and executed by the UTE EDAR Praceres (Acciona Construcción and Acciona Agua), marks a milestone in water management in the Pontevedra estuary, achieving a significant reduction in pollution and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants.
The objective of the project was the implementation of advanced water treatment technologies, expanding the capacity of the plant to serve 260,000 inhabitants, without encroaching on additional land. The site also complies with the stringent discharge limits set by Directive 91/271/EEC, ensuring sustainable management of industrial discharges and a healthier environment for the community. This effort has made the facility a benchmark in Europe for its efficiency and sustainability.
Applus+ is committed to continue contributing our knowledge to the development of sustainable infrastructures that generate a positive impact on society, promoting innovative solutions that improve the quality of life and preserve the environment for future generations.
