Through the Energy & Industry Division in Colombia, Applus+ took part in the second XM forum, this year with the theme “A sector in the process of transformation from a user perspective”. The event was held in September in the city of Cartegena de Indias. XM is an operator of the National Interconnected System (SIN) of Colombia, and administrator of the Energy Wholesale Market (MEM).

The event was attended by the main companies in Colombia’s Electricity Transmission, Generation and Distribution sector, as well as figures from various government Ministries and Commissions, such as the Minister of Mines and Energy, María Fernanda Suárez.

The forum revolved around forthcoming regulatory and technological changes which will require a great deal of flexibility and adjustment on the part of all of the players in the sector. International and local speakers set out their vision and talked about different challenges, notably the expected boom in Non-Conventional Renewable Energy and digital transformation.

During the event, various participants highlighted that the mass implementation of intelligent measuring systems and the progressive adoption of new trends (from Big Data to the Internet of Things, and technologies like blockchain) will completely transform the market and the relationship with users. Representing Applus+ were the Director of the Electrical Services Division, Erwin Ordóñez, and Head of the Electrical Projects Management Department, César Ruiz. As well as raising brand awareness as a sponsor in various contexts, the event helped Applus+ to consolidate its position among the large companies in the sector.
