Applus+ and Rohde & Schwarz analyze the new RED Directive and the pathways to conformity with its essential requirements

    The session, attended by representatives of the Spanish Ministry of Energy, Tourism and the Digital Agenda, looked at the new regulatory framework, identifying practical examples, resolving technical concerns and demonstrating test equipment for evaluating conformity with the essential requirements of RED.
    Last Friday October 20, Applus+ Laboratories and Rohde & Schwarz organized a technical session dedicated to the new European directive for radio equipment. The session was held at the Applus+ facilities in Barcelona (Spain) with participation from manufacturers of electrical and electronic products with wireless connectivity.
     
    Also taking part in the technical day were representatives of the Spanish Secretary of State for the Information Society and the Digital Agenda, who took part in the round table discussion which brought the event to a close.
     
    A new regulatory framework for connected devices
     
    The session took an in-depth look at the new directive for radio equipment, as well as changes from the previous R&TTE directive, both in terms of the devices affected and the process of certification and the role of the Notified Body. The essential requirements of the RED directive were also analyzed, along with routes to market access and obligations implied for each stakeholder, with special emphasis on technical documentation and risk prevention. During the event, Applus+ experts presented real-world examples in order to look at the technical standards which apply to different products and scenarios.
     
    Test equipment to evaluate the key requirements of the RED Directive
     
    Rohde & Schwarz presented its different test solutions for both laboratories and manufacturers, designed to evaluate product compliance with the essential requirements of the RED Directive. The company presented different test devices and techniques, with special emphasis on different test solutions for automotive components. Participants were also shown a technical demonstration of the test equipment.
