From now on, sustainable scrapping of cars will be easier in Denmark, as car owners will be able to hand in their cars for scrapping in 65 of our inspection stations across the country.
This new collaboration between Applus+ through its brand in Denmark Applus+ Bilsyn and Stena Recycling should make it significantly easier for car owners to hand in their car for scrapping, while at the same time it will increase the capacity of materials to be recycled.
The agreement means that car owners in the future can hand in their car for scrapping in 65 Applus+ inspection stations around Denmark. By offering many more drop-off points making them more accessible locally, more car owners get the opportunity to drive their car for scrapping with Stena.
Metals and components are recycled into new cars.
The agreement between the two companies falls at a time when the global automotive industry is hit by major supply problems, and where many car dealers in Denmark have major problems delivering new cars.
A statement from Danish car importers shows that 11.015 passenger cars were registered in April, which is 29 percent less than in the same period last year. The main reason for this is the lack of electronic chips and various car components that make it impossible to keep up with demand.
Approximately 110,000 used cars are scrapped in Denmark every year, and in connection with scrapping, the state pays a scrapping premium of DKK 2,200 (EUR 296). With the agreement, Applus+ Bilsyn will take an active part in even more cars being scrapped following safe and proven recycling procedures to strengthen the circularity in the area.
At the same time, the company wants to make it even easier for car inspection customers to get rid of the car.
Applus+ workers can give the car owner an independent assessment of the car's condition, whether the car is ready for scrapping or whether it can continue driving. At this point, it is the customer who sovereignly decides the car's fate, explains Per V. Rasmussen, CEO of Applus+Bilsyn.
