Applus+ ensures excellence on the reconstruction of the Pattullo Bridge

17/07/2024

The Pattullo Bridge, an iconic infrastructure in British Columbia, Canada, has connected Vancouver and Surrey since its grand opening on November 15, 1937. With a history spanning over 80 years, the bridge has become a vital transportation link and a cherished landmark. However, having exceeded its originally estimated 50-year service life, the bridge now faces significant safety concerns, necessitating its reconstruction. Applus+ has been brought on as the vendor surveillance agency for this ambitious project, ensuring the highest quality and safety standards are maintained throughout the reconstruction process.

The construction of the new Pattullo Bridge has been a collaborative effort involving multiple international partners. Initiated in September 2020 by Fraser Crossing Partners Group (FCCGP), Applus+ was enlisted to oversee the project in Canada, coordinating inspections internationally. Working in tandem with their team in China, Applus+ ensured meticulous quality assurance and quality control inspections as Jiangsu Yangzichengkang Marine Equipment Co., Ltd. completed the manufacturing of underwater pile sections by April 2021. Subsequently, Qinhuangdao China Railway Shanqiao Group took charge of the bridge body construction, commencing in December 2021 and achieving completion of the main structure by June 2024 after two and a half years of dedicated effort. Each phase of this endeavour reflects the seamless collaboration and expertise of skilled professionals across borders.
