Applus+ Experts: Fabián Prieto, Manager of Market Intelligence and Development for Latin America, seeks motivating challenges

Fabián is an electronic engineer with a Master's degree in Project Management and an MBA. After working for a year at ACT Telemática, specialised in telecommunications, he joined Applus+ in 2008 to coordinate the supervision of power recovery projects in Colombia. His work involved inspecting the work of technicians who optimised installations to shield them against energy theft. He performed his duties in different cities, taking on more and more responsibility and leading the first high-voltage power engineering developments in the country. After rising to Manager of the Electrical Services Department in the central zone of Colombia, he was appointed Manager of Tenders in the country within just two years.

In 2022, Fabián was promoted to his current role as Manager of Market Intelligence and Development for all of Latin America.  He plays a crucial role in identifying new business opportunities, developing and executing commercial plans and communicating with strategic clients in the region. His ability to analyse data and turn it into concrete actions, some of which are notable for their innovation and for optimising internal processes, has been fundamental to the company's growth in Latin America. His strategic approach and ability to "think big" stand out.

Two things drive Fabián's motivation: the challenges presented by each market in the region and the opportunity to find innovative solutions alongside multidisciplinary teams. His commitment to sustainable development and energy efficiency has been key in the implementation of cutting-edge projects that have made a difference in the Colombian industry. One example: the design of high-voltage power lines that included structural optimisations to reduce the volume of the towers, as they crossed protected nature reserves. Thanks to the work done by the Applus+ team led by Fabián, the design exceeded conservation standards and it was possible to build more than 100 kilometres of lines, minimising and compensating for possible environmental impacts.  

Adaptability, assertive communication, proactivity, teamwork and resilience are some of the personal skills he considers essential to achieve success. Fabián points out that Applus+ has facilitated his personal and professional development, offering him the opportunity to grow and evolve, " always having new challenges ahead", continuous training and future projection. Personal habits that are vital for maintaining high performance, such as family stability and closeness and enjoying hobbies outside of work, also contribute. In his case, running: he typically runs 10 kilometres a day. 

"We must make the most of the lessons learned, both the positive aspects that yielded good results and the negative ones, to improve at work," says Fabián. Respect for people and creating a positive working environment are values that resonate deeply with him and contribute to the success of Applus+ as an organisation.
