Applus+ Laboratories in Germany widens its Airbus Qualification scope with thermal test on composite

    Bremen’s Laboratory is now approved to test DSC and DMA standards.
    Applus+ materials testing laboratory in Bremen (BK Werkstofftechnik - Prüfstelle für Werkstoffe GmbH) recently obtained a new Airbus qualification to perform several thermal analysis technics used to characterize aeronautic composite materials.
     
    The German materials laboratory will now be able to test DSC of cured composites (AITM 3-0008 & AITM3-0027), and DMA (AITM1-0003) test specifications for Airbus and its suppliers.
    Both techniques are used to perform characterization of new materials or quality control tests inside of aeronautic components production.
     
    The Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) process is needed to determine the thermal properties like glass transition-, melting temperatures and the enthalpy of the reaction for the analysis of the extend of cure.
     
    Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) technics are used to measure the mechanical and viscoelastic properties of cured composites and resins.
     
    Bremen’s Laboratory is Nadcap accredited by both metallic and non-metallic materials, and was already qualified by Airbus to perform more than 70 mechanical and metallography test methods.
    Applus+ Laboratories has a network of material testing laboratories in Spain (Barcelona and Illescas), Germany, Norway and China.
