Applus+ Laboratories ready to test new 3.0 specification of EMV L1 for Contactless Terminals

29/11/2018

Debug sessions are available for terminal vendors to prepare their products before the new version becomes mandatory for Type Approval at the beginning of 2019.

Applus+ Laboratories is now ready to conduct terminal evaluation (QA) testing according to the new EMV L1 3.0 test specifications for contactless devices. Clients and payment terminal manufacturers can prepare the EMV L1 PCD certification of their products and then easily pass the Type of Approval when it becomes mandatory at the beginning of the year 2019. They can contact Applus+ for evaluating the performance of their contactless readers according to the new EMV 3.0 test specification both analog and digital.

EMV L1 CLESS (PCD) 3.0 test specification introduces major changes in the evaluation and certification of the terminal. Summarising, major updates are:
    • Instead of using only one PICC (Proximity Integrated Circuit Card) with the new version 3.0, test cases are tested using three different PICC’s with different antenna design, resonance frequency and linear loads value.
    • Waveform tests cases are tested against these three PICC’s modifying the linear load.
    • Sensitive tests cases are tested against these three PICC’s with Non Linear Load.
Applus+ Laboratories has improved the test bench by eliminating the electromagnetic noise with a Faraday Chamber to obtain a clean measurement of terminal signal.Another change EMV has announced besides this update is that from the 1st of January 2019, Interoperability Testing will be mandatory as part of EMV L1 PCD Type Approval. Applus+ Laboratories will also be ready to conduct the Interoperability Testing at the activation time of this test.
