Applus+ Norcontrol has signed an important contract with the Qatar Public Work Authority (Ashghal) for pavement management in Qatar.
Applus+ Norcontrol recently signed a contract worth about 7.5 million euro with the Qatar Public Work Authority to carry out studies on the state of the pavement (“Survey services for pavement condition and right of way asset inventory data collection including provision of necessary software solutions, training and post implementation support services”).
Applus+ Norcontrol has become the first company to provide this service in Qatar with this 18 month contract, during which all of the highways and streets of the country will be managed.
To carry out this project, the RCMS (Road Crack Measurement System), among many other auscultation systems, will be used. This advanced roadway listening system is based on LCMS (Laser Crack Measurement System) technology, and uses specialized, innovative equipment for taking measurements by laser.
The device is able to detect and measure fissures in the pavement quickly and efficiently (it is capable of logging data at speeds of up to 100 km/h).
At the end of the project, Ashghal will have a complete road-network management system made up of an inventory of the entire Qatar road network, annually updated road condition information, and a computer system that will make it possible, through the information provided by Applus+ Norcontrol, to plan the proper maintenance of the road network, while optimizing the budget earmarked for this purpose.
Thanks to Applus+ Norcontrol, Ashghal will know when, where and how it should carry out maintenance on its road network.
