The Applus+ Group has participated for the second consecutive year in the Enterprise Challenges contest organised by the Barcelona Education in Science and Technology Foundation (BEST).
Thanks to this initiative, students taking the Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Technologies and Economic Analysis at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and Pompeu Fabra University are able to work with companies to develop projects in these areas. The projects are presented to a jury and aim for several prizes.
The students were asked to devise and develop digital solutions according to the criteria set by the participating companies. The challenges for the university students collaborating with Applus+ were twofold. The first group had to develop an online marketplace for the sale of the IDIADA Division’s services; the second group had to integrate virtual-reality glasses into the statutory vehicle inspections performed by the Automotive Division. José Manuel Barrios (Digital Business Director at the IDIADA Division), Víctor Salvachúa (New Technologies Development at the Automotive Division), and Josú Otín (Area Director at the Automotive Division) were responsible for choosing the respective challenges for Applus+. Oriol Vaquer, Alfons Escuer (engineers from IDIADA Digital Business) and Jaime Francisco Gómez-Meana, Alejandro Cuenca and Xavier Grèbol (engineers from the statutory vehicle inspection centres in Sabadell and Madrid) mentored the students during the four weeks of the BEST initiative.
The team of students who solved the challenge for the Automotive Division won the second prize in the final ceremony of the Enterprise Challenges contest. We would like to congratulate the members of this team, Candela Álvarez, Carlos de Maqua, Patricia Rubial and Marina Suárez, for this achievement. The virtual event was organised by the Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering (ETSEIB) and was attended by representatives of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and the Pompeu Fabra University, as well as members of the other companies participating in the 2021 edition: Nestlé, HP, SUEZ, Cellnex, Noel, CIM, DOGA, COMEXI and the FemCAT Foundation.
