Adif has awarded Applus+, in a UTE (Temporary consortium) with Meta Engineering, the contract to provide supervision and Technical Assistance to the construction works to eliminate the telephone block in the section between Ferrol and Ortigueira, as well as to the works for the new design of the rail tracks and platforms at the stations.

The actions, which will affect the metric gauge line from Ferrol to Pravia (Asturias), consist of determining the equipment needed by the Security and Communications facilities. This will allow the operators in charge of controlling train traffic, who operate from a Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) centre, to block a certain section of a track in one direction or the opposite in order to allow and control the movement of trains in one direction or the opposite.

The Technical Assistance team put together by the Temporary consortium will be formed by six technical experts that will provide technical support to the Construction Manager in order to monitor the construction works and ensure that they follow the regulations in force. These will include geometric control, quality control, environmental control, construction control, building site surveillance and technical consultancy.

The goals of this project are to increase the capacity of the line and the frequency of circulating trains, improving the safety and reliability of the facilities, and streamlining and optimising the railway operation to current needs, reducing the operating costs by setting up the system to remotely control the facilities from the Main Office of the Centralised Traffic Centre in El Berrón (Asturias).

Applus+ prior experience in providing these services and the quality of our technicians have convinced Adif to put its trust in our company again to collaborate together in this large construction project for the next 14 months.
