Applus+ Norcontrol collaborates in the electrical interconnection project for the INELFE company
Since 2012 Applus+ Norcontrol has been working in the electrical interconnection project for the INELFE company, and lead by Red Eléctrica de España and Réseau de Transport d’Électricité. The project consists of the connection of Spain and France in the east of the Pyrenees through a new power line of more than 64.5 kilometers that connects the municipalities of Santa Llogaia, next to Figueres (Spain), and Baixas, next to Perpignan (France). The 8.5 kilometre section which crosses the Pyrenees will go through a tunnel, while the rest of the line will be installed in a trench.

Among the services provided by Applus+ Norcontrol are the technical assistance for control of work planning, supervision and project management of the Santa Llogaia-Baixas (Spanish stretch) power line, and the testing of power transformers of the Santa Llogaia converter station.

The new structure will double the capacity for exchanging electrical power with France from 1,400 to 2,800 megawatts and improves the security, stability and quality of both countries’ power supply.

The total investment comes to 700 million euros, with funding of 225 million euros under the European program EEPR (European Energy Programme for Recovery) and funding from the European Investment Bank through a loan of 350 million euros granted to RTE and REE.
