New vehicle inspection projects for Automotive Division in the USA

15/03/2018

Throughout 2017, the Automotive Division was awarded several challenging projects in the United States. These projects, including those outlined below, will help consolidate the company as a reference in the US vehicle inspection and vehicle maintenance sector.

Vehicle inspection and maintenance programme for Salt Lake County Health Department

The Automotive Division signed a new three-year agreement with the Salt Lake County Health Department in the State of Utah (USA) to continue providing its vehicle inspection and maintenance programme. The agreement includes three one-year renewal options. The Division won the contract after a competitive bidding process and has provided the County’s inspection programme since 2011.

The County’s decision to award the Division with a new contract demonstrates their confidence in our capabilities, satisfaction with the services provided and faith in the programme’s integrity.

New business line for New York State customer facing devices

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) sought the services of a qualified contractor to provide hardware, software and related services to allow DMV customers to perform voter and organ-donor enrolment transactions on customer facing devices (CFDs). After a competitive bidding process, the Division was awarded the contract.

The solution is expected to reduce demand on the department’s staff and improve the customer experience. The DMV network consists of 138 state and county offices and over 1,200 customer service positions. The term of the contract is five years.

Commonwealth of Massachusetts Vehicle Emissions and Safety Inspection Program

In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (USA), Applus+ Automotive implemented and now manages and maintains a new vehicle inspection and maintenance programme. The programme supports both motor-vehicle emissions and safety testing. The inspection network comprises 1,907 decentralised inspection stations, 7,000 certified inspectors and 10 Motorist Assistance Centers (MACs). The MACs provide motorists, inspectors and repair shops with comprehensive repair-related services, programme information, waivers, exemptions and on-board diagnostics readiness assistance.

There are an average of 4.7 million paid inspections annually, with approximately 300,000 free re-inspections each year. The five-year contract includes three renewal options to potentially extend the partnership for up to 14 years.

New York State road skills testing and scheduling system

Under this new contract with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Applus+ Automotive implemented upgrades to its road-skills testing system DrivewAtch™.

This automated system provides the scheduling, validating, administering, scoring, results processing and reporting of commercial and non-commercial road-skills tests. The term of the contract is five years and includes five one-year renewal options.

New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission AIS

The Automotive Division implemented a new automated inspection system (AIS) for the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC). The purpose of the project was to improve car and auto inspection throughput and performance without compromising the quality of inspections. TLC wanted to partner with a vendor who would understand TLC’s current operations and enhancement requirements, and who would present opportunities for increased operational efficiency.

Approximately 102,000 for-hire cars undergo a safety and emissions inspection annually. The eight-year contract with TLC includes two three-year renewal options.

State of Texas Department of Public Safety appointment-scheduling application

Applus+ Automotive implemented a cloud-based appointment-scheduling application for the State of Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) in the USA. DPS provides driving-licence and ID-card services to between four and six million people annually.

This solution gives driving-licence customers the ability to schedule their own appointments online for services provided by a network of 239 offices across the state.

State of Connecticut vehicle inspection programme

The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (USA) extended their vehicle inspection programme contract with the Division for an additional two years. The inspection network consists of over 200 testing stations, 14 fleet inspection facilities and 23 VIN verification locations. Approximately 1,150,000 vehicle emissions tests are conducted annually.

The Division has held a contract with Connecticut for 14 years. The recent two-year extension demonstrates the trust this customer has in Applus+ and the quality of our services.
