The section, corresponding to the A-54, will be a high-capacity road linking Palas de Rei and Melide Sur.
Applus+, in a joint venture with
EPTISA, has been awarded the technical assistance to control and monitor a tranche of the new highway linking Lugo and Santiago de Compostela. The interval, which will join Palas de Rei and Melide South, will increase the safety of the current N-547 and eliminate the crossing of Melide.
The road will become an important axis for the structuring of the interior of Galicia. The characteristics of this tranche are a length of 11.7 km and will consist of two carriageways with two lanes of 3.5 m. each; 2.50m outside shoulders and interiors of a meter and a median of nine meters wide.
The contract, signed last June 26, has a term of execution of 62 months. The origin of the project is located at the south of the town of Melide at the junction of the AC-840 road and continues through the municipalities of Santiso and Palas de Rei, where it will join the next stretch of the A-54 Palas de Rei - Guntín, already in service.
Along the route there are a total of 16 structures. Five viaducts have been designed on the Furelos, Seco and Pambre rivers; Another at Rego do Vilar and a last one to the passage of the Mountain of Careón, where "Santolina melidensis" can be find, a vegetal species especially protected. A wall of 270 meters length is also projected at the South Melide connection, six overpasses and four lower ones, some of them specific to the fauna, which also fulfill a function of transverse permeability of the freeway.
