Applus+ certified local rig inspector performed a verification and physical equipment inspection of an offshore heliport fire protection inspection in Indonesia. This inspection is conducted yearly per NFPA 418 Standard for Heliports.

A fire protection in heliport is fire protection oscillating monitor or nozzle that will generate foam and spray to the landing pad in case of an accident occurred. A periodic inspection, in the form of checking the thickness of the Piping system and its vessels, is needed once a year. During the inspection, our rig inspector performs verification of inspection data and visual physical equipment inspection. The inspection data is coming from the Thickness Meter, which serves which serves to measure the thickness of the equipment. Furthermore, the nameplate is also used as a reference for equipment information, but what is often found is the placement of the nameplate which is difficult to reach or even unavailable.

There are several types of damage that may occur, for example:

    • Corrosive in several places, especially on the support attachment.
    • Pressure gauge that is not functioning properly and has not been calibrated.
    • Liquid coming out of the nozzle is a bit clogged.

Therefore, it is very important to do a visual check through Applus+ highly experienced and multi-skilled personnel, even though the rig owner has carried out regular inspections.

At Applus+, our focus on work-scope is to limit risks to health, safety and the environment in our client’s operation. This project has strengthened our position in oil and gas sector, as well as to strengthen the Rig Inspection service capability in Indonesia.
