Applus+ Saudi Arabia is pleased to announce our involvement with the Ministry of Transport in an innovative civil infrastructure project focused on modernizing the management of road networks throughout the Kingdom. This initiative uses a comprehensive, data-driven approach to enhance road safety and sustainability through proven, cost-effective maintenance strategies aimed at improving road quality. Additionally, the project will introduce a new classification methodology for the entire Saudi Arabian road network, which will serve as a foundation for prioritizing future maintenance based on key performance and social criteria.
Led by Dr Mario Manosalvas Paredes and Dr Hosain Mansour, the team will elaborate and distribute questionaries to stakeholders to gather their perspective and knowledge, conduct a comprehensive review of existing road inspection studies, assess the Kingdoms’ current and future traffic demands, liaise with outside stakeholders to understand future projects affecting the road network, and review international best practices from leading road management systems. By harnessing advanced technologies such as AI-powered data analytics, satellite mapping, predictive modelling, we aim to optimize long-term planning and real-time decision-making.
Through in-depth analysis and alignment with local standards and future network needs, Applus+ will develop a robust classification system that guides maintenance prioritization, explores cost-saving alternatives, and enables targeted improvements. This approach will enhance road quality, reduce operational costs, and deliver benefits to both the government and the public.
